2011 Inline Hockey Junior Olympics

July 05, 2011

U12

The day started very early for the U12 team today as they had a 6 am game that meant leaving the hotel at 4:45am.  The tired boys had a very back and forth game with Team Hawaii but in the end they lost by a score of 3-1.

The second game of the day was against the Chinese TaiPai team which to date has been very good and won many of their games.  The Chinese team has big kids who like to use their size.  Once again the action was back and forth.  This one was a nail biter though with #44 from Calgary scoring with 00:16 seconds to win the game 3-2.

Tomorrow will feature the U12 team in the first of their elimination games at 9:00 am.  Good luck to the team.

U14

The Team Alberta U14 team played their first semi final game of the International tournament – they played the weaker Team USA Northwest.  Our team went into this game with lots of confidence after their round robin results.  Team Alberta takes the semi final game by a score of 9-5.

The next game for the Team Alberta U14’s is tomorrow morning against the undefeated Columbians at 8:15 am.  Good luck.

U16

Team Alberta U16 started the International tournament today with a very close game against Team USA Stripes.  Team Alberta took a commanding lead however Team Stripes was not going to give the victory to Team Alberta without putting up a great effort.  Through some very hard work and team play the Team Alberta boys managed to win this one by a score of 7-6.

The second game of the day featured Team Alberta playing against Team Hawaii.  With Team Alberta opening the scoring just 50 seconds into the game everyone was ready for the same type of action as the morning game.  Unfortunately that was not to be the case.  Team Hawaii was able to capitalize on 3 of their power plays and then added an empty netter to beat Team Alberta 4-1.  The game was a disappointment to Team Alberta U16, but there are still 2 games tomorrow in which the team can secure a good position for the elimination games tomorrow evening.

U18

The Team Alberta U18 team finally got to play their first game of the tournament at 10:30 in the evening.  After a long wait you could tell the boys were anxious to get out there and play.  The game was against Columbia – the game started with Team Alberta taking the lead about ½ way through the first half.  Columbia responded and tied the game.  After much back and forth play the game was tied at 2.  On a short-handed breakaway Team Columbia scored to win the game with 00:04 seconds left.

The team plays 3 games tomorrow and now that the bugs have been worked out – we are anticipating some great things from the boys in the game to come.
