St Peters Missouri – Team Alberta once again travelled to State Wars!! Team Alberta took 6 ½ teams to represent Alberta Roller Hockey in the 14 day Tournament.
State Wars had 316 teams from across the United States and Canada participated. Competition and pin trading were running at a fevered pitch! Team Alberta is still adjusting to the State Wars format – where teams are tiered by individual birth year and not the traditional 2-year divisions. It certainly has changed the competition.
Team Alberta’s results were impressive with the older age groups placing quite well and the less experienced teams with very respectable showings, and gaining tremendous experience.
Final results were:
2003 AAA 5th
2002 AAA 6th
2000 AAA 6th
2000 A 3rd
1999 AA 2nd
1998 AA 2nd
2004 Team Mission (Half AB, Half OH Players) AA 6th
President of AMRHA Ted Zylstra says “The move from AAU to State Wars has been very positive – We have been able to send more players from more age groups to represent us. We have seen a real growth in the skill of the players we are sending, and with the tournament being outside of the traditional “tourist” areas it has made playing for Team Alberta far more accessible to a greater number of players.”
While Missouri is not generally a family tourist magnet, families universally were pleased with the choice, having the opportunity to visit the Arch, and see St. Louis from 700 feet up – where Percy Jackson fans discovered there is no way Percy Jackson could have made the leap from the top of the Arch to the Mississippi River.
Taking a River Boat Tour, visiting the City Museum, taking a walk across the historic Chain of Rocks Bridge into Illinois, eating at any one of the hundreds of noted eateries in the greater St Louis area, boutique shopping and of course the mandatory Budweiser brewery tour. Metro St Louis had a little something for everyone!
Ted Zylstra says “ I see no reason not to continue with State Wars, they put on a quality tournament with great competitions. The Tournament is well organized and supported – we look forward to an ongoing relationship with State Wars.”
As of this release the location of the 2016 tournament has not been released.
