Return of the Roller Hockey Showcase Event
May 15, 2017
The month of May was filled with great Roller Hockey almost every weekend, but none was more exciting than the return of the Alberta Showcase. The last Showcase tournament was held in 2010 in Didsbury, so what better choice then to kickstart the event seven years later in the same place? The first event only featured 6 teams, this time around there were almost double so it had to played out of two venues, Carstairs and Didsbury
Eleven teams in three age categories came together to play in this action-packed weekend Tournament. All divisions put their best teams forward and the medal games were all closely contested games. Referee-In-Chief Greg Irish said “I am very impressed with the level of play especially in the young player entering the sport. They are serious about the game – they play hard and work well as a team!”
The success of the Showcase weekend is a great sign of things to come. New leagues are popping up across the province and this tournament has become an outreach to communities with small programs or communities not familiar with the sport.
Winning teams received a plaque and their names will be engraved on the annual trophy.
