Camrose Showcase Tournament - Expanding the Sport

May 10, 2018

written by Cole Heintz

This past weekend was our showcase tournament in Camrose and it went very well. With the age groups ranging from U10-U17, there was great roller hockey to be played and watched all weekend. With teams coming from Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, and Sherwood Park you can be sure that each team wanted to take the weekend for their own. The weekend started off with a round robin. There were solid games played by every team with there being very close games in every age group. There were even some rival games where teams that are only seeing each other in tournaments could get the bragging rights of the win until the next game or even next tournament. As the days went on the competition started to get harder as teams were trying to get in the top 2 teams of their age group to be able to play in the finals and as the pressure grew some teams would eventually fall and not make it into the championship games. As Sunday rolled around there were a few final games to be played to determine places and then came the big games. As it was now time for the championship games to play out, they were hard fought games by all teams that had made it through the round robin and now had their chance to take it all. Rivals played again but now for a bigger prize and bragging rights and at the end of the day, there was only one winner. As each age group took the floor everybody knew this was the one to leave it all out there and as the last four hard-fought games came to a close so did our weekend in Camrose. With some teams walking away with the win and others looking forward to the next time they play it will be interesting to see how games play out later in the season and tournaments to come.
